I know I haven't posted Part II of our last vacation yet, but I HAD to post what happened today. The day I became Crazy Mom.
So Will is in Chicago for the weekend and I made plans to go to the Lenoir City Arts and Crafts Fair with Irene and her friend Kim (who I had yet to meet). I wake up feeling pretty crappy from lack of sleep...for some reason I was afraid someone was going to come in the house last night...so I was dragging this morning.
I finally get to where I'm going...or at least I think so. I'm turning to park in this big grassy (hay, really) field thinking "how am I going to get the stroller through that?" So I roll down the window, ask the parking guy and he says he'll take it out of the trunk if I'll just pop it. So I'm trying to pop it, not remembering that in our new car (Nissan Altima) it won't work while the car is on. So he tells me to pull over (by now I've created a line of traffic) and he pulls it out. Then stops traffic again so I can back up and drive into the hay field to park.
I park the car, and I get out and go around the car and open the backdoor where Seth is sitting. That's when I see that his diaper has leaked poop all over the car seat, his clothes, and who knows what else. I know right away this is not going to be pretty. So I grab the diaper bag, lay it on the ground next to me (flattening the wet hay) and fold out the changing pad. I lay Seth on it and go to work. Off comes the overalls (covered in poop at the crotch). Then comes the onesie. By this time he's bored and starts pulling on the hay next to him. I take it from his hands and put it back on the ground and start to go to work on the diaper.
Here goes the hay again, a HUGE handful! By now his diaper is half off. I'm trying to grab wipes to clean up his bottom and now his feet...and he's got hay everywhere. So the diaper is now off, Seth is naked and grabbing handfuls of hay and covering himself from head to toe. It's sticking to the poop, sticking to his body, and he's smiling and laughing away. I'm beside myself! Now what? I pick him up, lay him on the floor of the car...still naked. Realize I have no baby wipes left. I grab the onesie, find a clean spot and try to wipe him off. My phone is ringing, cars are beeping their horns locking their doors. My head is spinning. Irene calls and tells me I'm in the wrong parking lot and would have to take the shuttle.
I throw a diaper on Seth (nothing BUT a diaper), put him in his carseat, strap him in, throw the clothes on the seat, and get in behind the wheel.
I stop the car for the stroller and off I drive in search of Irene and Kim. Let's just say I didn't make the greatest first impression upon meeting Kim, but luckily the two of them were more than understanding. After all, today WAS the day I became Crazy Mom!
