Karate for One Please!

When Seth was old enough to join soccer...we signed him up and bought all the required items: cleats, shin guards, jersey, and socks.   and he HATED it....I mean HATED soccer.  We'd take him to practice with all the other little Hooeys and instead of running after the ball, he'd run away from the ball and run to us.  He simply did not like the fast pace of the game with kids coming AT him.  He was not having any of it.

Will and I are not the kind of parents to force our son to do an activity he despises.  Our general rule is:  try it twice and if you don't like it - you don't have to continue participating in it (this does not apply to academics or chores ;-)

A friend mentioned to me that he might enjoy karate.  It's individual.  The pace is slower - and he won't have anyone chasing him.

Last night we took him to his first karate class and he had a BLAST!  He was smiling the whole time and giving me the thumbs up and doing all the moves like a miniature Karate Kid.  I will, however, wait another week before buying him all the gear - just in case.

I was not the team sport kid, while Will was.  I'm happy to say Seth takes after me in this regard.

Here's some pics from his time and our celebratory dinner at Gosh Ethiopian afterwards.  After all, who doesn't like eating their plate?

  1. This is quite interesting I want my kids to try it. Last year my daughters were in toddler gymnastics class and they love interacting with kids their age.
